Sponsored Walks

see also: Big Walk

Every year Rainbow Development in Africa organises at least two sponsored walks. These are a great way of raising funds. (They certainly beat sitting in front of a computer!) Generally, we do a local one near to our base in Presteigne, Mid-Wales. This is more of a family affair: a one-day jaunt across the rolling hills of Radnorshire with 30 or 40 people ranging in age from 7 to 70 with a large-scale picnic en-route and perhaps a dip in the river if it`s hot (generally in June or July).

For our other walk we go further afield. So far, we have visited Ireland four times and the south of France twice. These trips generally last four or five days straddling a weekend in late September or early October. In groups of perhaps seven or eight, walking for two and a half or three and a half days we cover some 30 to 50 miles. All walks are strictly tailored to walkers’ wishes, needs and abilities, as our sole objective (besides raising funds, of course) is to for people to enjoy themselves. Although it is nice to test oneself a little and to get out into some serious countryside, these walks are not endurance feats and the evenings generally find us in some cosy pub or restaurant before retiring to a B&B or hotel. And there are always some adventures!

So why not come along on one of these walks (see Latest News for details of dates), or we could even create one for you and your friends, either along the lines described here or tailored especially to your wishes.

All costs involved in our sponsored walks are covered by the walkers themselves, meaning every penny raised from sponsorship goes to the charity.
