Traditional and Irrigation Farming April 2018

After a number of years introducing and promoting the use of ‘Bulldog’ pesticide to combat the annually crippling effects of caterpillar infestation on the staple millet crop, take-up of the simple and sparing application technique has been almost universal amongst locals. This year ADMAPE recorded 251 farmers applying the method in the flood-recession sector. (Due to the poor rains, no rain-fed crops were planted.)

ADMAPE continue their engagement with the irrigation farming sector, advising on low-external-input farming methods for rice production, such as the use of compost instead of fertilisers (increasing revenues by 30%), as well as diversification, including the growing of fodder crops.
